I’m running because Douglas County needs a fresh voice in the County Attorney’s Office. I have been a public servant serving as a prosecutor for more than 33 years, the last 13 years serving as a Deputy Douglas County Attorney. I have seen first hand the challenges that attorneys, law enforcement and our community face. We need common-sense decisions that follow the rule of law and hold offenders accountable. I am ready to listen, fight for due process, and make certain the Douglas County Attorney’s office works for everyone, not only a select few.
I was born and raised in Central Nebraska where I learned early the importance of hard work and community. I graduated from UNL College of Law in 1992 and have worked as a prosecutor for 33 years.
As the County Attorney I will be accountable and transparent to the people that I serve. Public perception and trust in the office’s due process and justice system has slipped. It’s time for strong leadership that fights for our people, while collaborating with our community leaders to improve ties. Douglas County is stronger together, I’m prepared to stand up for all members of our community and fight for the justice victims deserve.
Keeping our community safe should be our government’s number one priority. I will work alongside community leaders and law enforcement to listen and act on their biggest challenges. As County Attorney I will create a team of prosecutors who are dedicated to handling gang and violent crime cases to ensure we have the best attorneys on these cases. I will continue to work to make Douglas County a safe community for everyone and their families.
We need a proactive approach to juvenile corrections that supports youth before they can enter the system. The best action is prevention and addressing the root cause of juvenile crime, which is often gang influence, food and housing insecurity, or poor workforce training. I will work towards common-sense solutions to curb juvenile crime before it begins and support our youth.
The office needs to cut what isn’t working, while improving efficiency towards programs like modern-day case management that saves taxpayer money. I will work towards an updated system that will allow for attorneys to use their time efficiently. Time and money is wasted on archaic approaches to prosecution. It is time for the Douglas County Attorney’s office to modernize and cut costs.
